Redevelopment of an existing detached bungalow into a community of five contemporary homes.

The proposed scheme provides a high quality architectural response to a sloping site with a complex topography in an established residential setting. The site is divided into 2 plots, a larger proposal of 3 terraced properties to the front of the site, and 2 smaller houses to the rear fronting Taunton Lane

Despite the challenging topography all five homes benefit from level access to the ground floor amenity spaces at both front and rear. Working with the existing contours, the gardens to the three terraced houses are divided into four stepped levels and each with lawn and patio areas, allowing the residents to utilise the garden for different activities such as play, outdoor dining and growing plants.

The architecture is a modern interpretation of the local vernacular and features upper floors set into roof forms with asymmetrical pitches that reduce the overall mass. We went to significant lengths to improve the quality and intensity of planting on the site, with green roofs to refuse stores and semi-mature trees at the plot boundaries, helping to deliver improvements to the visual amenity of the area.
