A sustainable three-bedroom home nestled in the Kent countryside.

Inspired by its rural farm setting, KHD have designed a contemporary barn-like form, which has been thoughtfully crafted to deliver a unique family home.

The simple gable form and minimal slate tile facade hide the playfulness of light and space that exists within the interior.

The design uses traditional and natural materials such as slate, stone and timber which can be found on surrounding rural buildings such as farmhouses and barns.

Our form and material choices allow the proposed scheme to sit sensitively within the surrounding green belt area, offering a subtle moment of elegance and grandeur amongst the woodland.

The design makes great use of unique construction systems such as insulated concrete form work (ICF) achieving low-to-zero running costs, without a requirement for alternative energies. This system works towards achieving Passivhaus and low-energy building standards. The proposal also includes triple glazing systems on all windows, a ground source heat pump and south facing solar panels.
